Arrested two with huge amount of counterfeit notes and equipment for making them by CTCC.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of DMP arrested two people along with a huge amount of counterfeit notes and equipment,a raid in the Kadamtali area of the capital. Names of those arrested, Md. Shahab Uddin (43), Hazera Akter Ritu (30) On Sunday (26 July), i.e., around 12:30 AM on 27 July, a team from the Transnational Crime Division of CTTC conducted the raid and arrested them. According to CTTC sources, acting on secret information, on the night of 26 July a CTTC Transnational Crime Division team carried out a special operation at a rented house in Lane 5, Palashpur Gas Road, under Kadamtali Police Station, DMP. During the raid, the two were caught red-handed while producing counterfeit notes. At the time of arrest, the following were recovered from their possession. Tk 2 lakh 58 thousand in counterfeit notes one laptop, one color printer, Special dies, special ink, security-thread paper and other materials used to make fake notes. During initial questioning, the arrestees said they had been renting the house for several years and producing counterfeit notes. They and their associates distributed the fake notes in busy markets and shopping malls across Dhaka, Cumilla and other districts of the country to deceive ordinary people. CTTC sources further said that the main accused, Md. Shahab Uddin, has five previous cases filed against him under the Special Powers Act at Ramna, Tejgaon and Mohammadpur police stations of DMP. A case under the Special Powers Act is being filed against the arrestees at Kadamtali Police Station.At the same time, CTTC’s operation to identify and arrest other members of the counterfeit note production ring is ongoing.
