FENI, July 27 — In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a massive consignment of contraband Indian goods along with a transport vehicle during drives in the border areas of Feni.
According to a press release issued by the Feni Battalion (4 BGB) on Monday (July 27), the successful operation is being viewed as a significant blow to border-based illegal trade networks.
Acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team from the Feni Battalion conducted sudden, targeted drives at various strategic border points under Fulgazi and Chhagalnaiya upazilas. During the operation, BGB personnel intercepted a shipment containing a large quantity of Indian sarees, a massive consignment of chocolates, and a mini-truck used for transporting the smuggled goods.
The estimated market value of the seized goods and the vehicle is Tk 6,825,950.
BGB confirmed that the seized items and the truck are in the process of being handed over to local customs authorities for legal proceedings and further disposition.
"BGB remains on high alert to prevent any form of illegal cross-border infiltration, ensure border security, reduce border deaths to zero, and eradicate all forms of smuggling, including narcotics."
— Lieutenant Colonel MM Zillur Rahman, Commanding Officer, Feni Battalion (4 BGB)
