Special Correspondence.
I got married at a very young age to a worthless husband.
I was his 4th wife.
He hid everything and married me.
Then, not long after, he started beating me badly.
I couldn’t take it anymore, so I went back to my father’s house.
Then my parents persuaded me and sent me back.
I just couldn’t adjust.
He was much older than me.
I tried a lot to make it work.
If a husband is good, you don’t have to become his 4th wife.
Nothing worked out.
I managed the household with a lot of hardship.
He didn’t even give me proper food. I lived with great difficulty when it came to clothes.
I was young, I didn’t understand what to do.
Then one day I decided I would go far away somewhere.
That wasn’t possible because I had no money.
For someone who has no money, the whole world is as dark as a new-moon night.
Then I went back to my father’s house again.
I told my parents to take me away from there for good.
My parents agreed.
Then that worthless man came again with his parents, begging, and took me back.
I thought maybe he would change.
But as they say, a dog’s tail never straightens.
After that I didn’t look at anyone else.
I myself came out and got a one-sided divorce.
After coming back, I spent some days fine at my father’s house.
Then my parents got fed up.
They started taunting me over everything.
They would even say, “Get out of the house.”
I couldn’t bear that torture anymore,
so I left home and got a job.
After some days that job was gone too.
Then I became destitute.
I didn’t know what to do.
I went to my friend’s house.
I learned work with my friend. Now I work in a garment factory.
Alhamdulillah, now I’m somehow surviving, eating and wearing clothes.
If a woman doesn’t find happiness in her husband’s house,
then her life becomes hell.
Only a divorced woman understands what kind of pain is inside her.
So I request you all, please don’t make bad comments about divorced women.
If we go around all the garment industries in Bangladesh and talk to millions of workers, I think we’ll hear millions of such stories.
Just hearing the statement of the garment worker in the picture made me shiver.I could have been Princess Diana too.
I think under the Ministry of Industries, arrangements should be made to secure the future of all the workers in the factories.
