Md Omar Faruk | Special Correspondent. A madrasa teacher has been detained by police over allegations of raping a child student in Barura upazila of Cumilla. At least eight police personnel, including Sub-Inspector (SI) Mission Chowdhury, were injured while trying to prevent an angry mob from assaulting the accused. Police also detained two other individuals in connection with the incident. The incident took place on Wednesday (July 29) in the Adda Bazar area of the upazila. According to police and local sources, allegations were raised against Atik Ullah, a teacher of Foyzune Madina Model Madrasa in Adda, for allegedly raping a child student. As news of the incident spread, a large number of local residents gathered at the madrasa and nearby Adda Bazar. A team from Barura Police Station rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control. The child victim alleged that after dinner, when the other students had gone to sleep, the teacher called the child and another student into the madrasa office. After the other student left, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the child and warned the victim not to disclose the incident to anyone. When police took the accused into custody, an agitated crowd attempted to assault him. Police intervened to prevent the mob attack, leading to a scuffle between officers and members of the crowd. SI Mission Chowdhury and at least seven other police personnel sustained injuries during the incident. The accused was later safely escorted to Barura Police Station. Police also detained two individuals on charges of assaulting police officers and obstructing them from performing their official duties. The injured officers received primary medical treatment. The accused, Atik Ullah, denied the allegation, claiming that the child had merely massaged his body. However, he admitted that he had acted improperly. He is a resident of Shashaiya village in Barura upazila. Barura Police Station Investigation Officer Sanjoy Sarkar said several police personnel were injured while trying to rescue the accused from the angry crowd. He confirmed that the teacher had been detained and that the process of filing a case was underway. Police said the child's allegation is being investigated and that legal action will be taken based on the findings. The alleged attack on police officers and obstruction of government duties are also under investigation.
