CHHAGALNAIYA (FENI): Tensions mounted in Feni's Chhagalnaiya following a clash between two rival groups over the control of a local sand quarry (Balumahal). However, a planned protest program was ultimately foiled due to strict police intervention. Facing heavy deployment and vigilant patrolling by law enforcement agencies, the organizers were forced to backtrack, keeping the situation under control with no untoward incidents reported.
According to police case records, a violent clash broke out between two factional groups at the Chhagalnaiya Police Station area on Wednesday (July 29) over the ongoing sand quarry dispute.
In response to the case filed over the incident, the 'Alamgir Siddiqui' group called for a human chain and protest rally at the local Zero Point, anticipating a gathering of around 1,000 men and women. Tensions flared after the complainant's side, the 'Tipu' group, vowed to resist the protest at all costs, sparking fears of widespread chaos in the area.
To prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order, extensive security measures were enforced around Chhagalnaiya Zero Point and adjacent areas under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Feni.
The security deployment included the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chhagalnaiya Police Station with mobile teams and adequate force, the Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Chhagalnaiya Circle), a patrol team from the District Detective Branch (DB), and two patrol units from RAB-7, Feni.
Faced with the zero-tolerance stance and strict oversight of law enforcement agencies, the organizers initially attempted to relocate the event, but were ultimately forced to cancel the program entirely.
Commenting on the situation, Mohammad Abu Taher, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chhagalnaiya Police Station, stated:
"Under the directives of higher authorities and due to strict police vigilance, no major breach of peace was allowed to occur. The law and order situation in the area is currently completely back to normal. Intelligence surveillance remains heightened to prevent any further untoward incidents."
