Feni District Police arrested Md. Alamgir Hossain Siddiqui, a controversial BNP leader from Chhagalnaiya and an accused in multiple criminal cases, during a special operation in the capital early Friday (July 31).
A police team raided 'Hotel Grand Circle Inn' in the capital's Shahjahanpur area around dawn to apprehend him.
According to police sources, Alamgir is the son of Amir Hossain Laki from the Uttar Langalmor area of Chhagalnaiya. He is the prime accused (Accused No. 1) in a sensitive case (Case No. 23) filed with Chhagalnaiya Police Station following a violent clash over the control of a sand quarry (balumahal) and local dominance on July 25.
Data from the Crime Data Management System (CDMS) of Feni District Police reveals that Alamgir Siddiqui faces several serious charges, including violations of the Sand Quarry and Soil Management Act, kidnapping, public assault, and attempted murder. He had reportedly been hiding in Dhaka for a long time to evade arrest.
Following due legal procedures, he was produced before the relevant court on Friday. A senior officer of the district police stated that such drives will continue to maintain law and order and bring criminals to justice.
