Khateeb and Muezzin Killed in Fish Pickup Truck Collision in Mirsarai.

Two motorcycle riders, who served as the khateeb and muezzin of a local mosque, were killed after their motorcycle was struck by a fish-laden pickup truck in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram on Sunday afternoon. The fatal accident occurred on the old Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in the Chowdhuryhat area under Jorarganj Union. The deceased were identified as Zainal Abedin (35), son of Abdus Salam of Charsharat village under Maghadia Union, and Jahir Uddin (52), son of the late Khorshed Alam. Zainal Abedin was the President of the Olama Dal of Ward No. 9 in Ichakhali Union and served as the Khateeb of Dargahpara Kala Pir Shah Jame Mosque. Jahir Uddin was the mosque's Muezzin. According to eyewitnesses, the two men were returning home on a motorcycle after completing an urgent task. As they reached the Chowdhuryhat area, a speeding fish-laden pickup truck traveling from the opposite direction collided head-on with their motorcycle. Local residents rushed the victims to Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared both of them dead. Dr. Shafayat Hossain, the emergency department physician at Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, said the two men were brought to the hospital in critical condition. After examination, they were pronounced dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Halim of Jorarganj Police Station said police rushed to the hospital after receiving news of the accident. Legal procedures, including the inquest of the bodies, are currently underway.
