In a major anti-narcotics operation, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 63.5 kilograms of Indian cannabis from the Chhagalnaiya border area in Feni.
The information was confirmed through a press release issued by the Feni Battalion (4 BGB) on Monday afternoon (August 3).
According to BGB sources, a special patrol team conducted a drive in the border area of Chhagalnaiya upazila based on secret information. During the drive, the BGB team recovered the large consignment of drugs abandoned by smugglers who were attempting to bring it across the border. However, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the smugglers managed to flee the scene. Process is underway to hand over the seized Indian cannabis to the local police station for further legal action.
Regarding the operation, Commanding Officer of Feni Battalion (4 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel MM Zillur Rahman, stated that the BGB has adopted a zero-tolerance policy to prevent drug smuggling along the borders.
He said, "BGB's maximum vigilance and intelligence activities are ongoing to prevent illegal border crossing, ensure security, bring border killings down to zero, and stop all forms of smuggling. Such anti-narcotics drives will be intensified further in the future."
