Taslima Khandaker Nusrat, Sarail Upazila Correspondent. Passengers and drivers are suffering immensely due to severe traffic congestion in the Brahmanbaria Biswa Road area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. As the work to upgrade the highway to four lanes is ongoing, traffic jams persist here for nearly 24 hours, from morning until late at night. During an on-site visit Monday morning, a several-kilometer-long line of vehicles was seen stretching from Biswa Road to Cumilla and Ashuganj. Hundreds of cargo covered vans, trucks, passenger buses, and CNG auto-rickshaws are stuck. In the intense heat and sun, passengers have to sit on the road for hours. A CNG driver, describing his ordeal, said, "I left at 8 AM, and I still haven't been able to cross Biswa Road. It's impossible to sit inside the vehicle in this heat. The passengers are also fed up." A passenger traveling from Dhaka to Sylhet said, "I am taking a patient to the hospital. But with this jam, I doubt we will be able to reach on time." Officials from the Roads and Highways Department said that work is underway to upgrade the Dhaka-Sylhet highway to four lanes. The road has become narrow due to the work, which is causing the traffic jam. Efforts are underway to complete the work quickly. Local businessmen and residents have demanded that the work be completed soon to resolve the congestion. They said thousands of people's working hours are being wasted every day because of this traffic jam. According to related sources, the project work may be completed by the end of 2026. Until then, passengers will have to travel enduring this suffering.
