Severe Load Shedding Life in Amtali Becomes Unbearable.

Amtali (Barguna) Correspondent. Even if electricity comes, it goes. It doesn't even come. If it comes once or twice in a day, it doesn't last more than 10-15 minutes. People's lives have become miserable due to the suffering from electricity. This is what Ripon Munsi, a resident of Amtali Municipality, said in frustration. He further said, I’ve given up hope for electricity and am now thinking of alternatives. AGM Mr Kausar Ahmed, Zonal Officer of Amtali PBS, said, There is severe load shedding because supply is less than demand. The demand for electricity in Amtali Upazila is 13 megawatts. But we are getting only 5 megawatts. So 8 megawatts of load shedding will continue. It has been learned that 67,000 families in Amtali Upazila have electricity connections. These families need 13 megawatts of electricity every day. But for the last 15 days, severe load shedding has been seen. On average, electricity is available for only 4-5 hours per day. For the rest of the time, load shedding is happening in one way or another. Because of this kind of load shedding, life in Amtali has become unbearable. Housewife Ruma Akter said, The suffering from electricity is at its peak now. It’s not available during the day. It comes and goes. Even if it stays a bit at night, once it goes it doesn’t come back. I urge the government to save us from this electricity suffering. School student Tanjila Akter said, Studying at night is almost impossible because of electricity. Now there’s no option but to use hurricane lamps. *Fish seller Abdul Kader said, I’m in big trouble with fish because I’m not getting ice. Only Allah knows when we’ll get relief from this problem. Saiful Islam, owner of Fatema Ice Factory in Amtali, said, Ice production is almost shut down due to electricity. Business is in very bad shape. I’m not able to supply ice to fish traders. They are also facing problems.
