Jaintapur, Housewife Killed Allegedly by Husband and Co-wife.

Naeem Ahmed, Jaintapur-Gowainghat (Sylhet). A housewife named Jiasmin Akter, 32, died after allegedly being beaten by her husband and co-wife following a family dispute in Jaintapur, Sylhet. Police have detained the deceased’s husband, Rashid Ahmed, and his first wife, Rushna Begum, in connection with the incident. The incident took place on Tuesday (August 11) afternoon in the Nayagati area of Nijpat Union under Jaintapur Upazila. Jiasmin was the daughter of Bashir Ahmed of the same area and the second wife of Rashid Ahmed. According to local residents and police sources, Jiasmin had allegedly been subjected to physical and mental abuse for a long time over family disputes. On Tuesday afternoon, Rashid Ahmed and his first wife, Rushna Begum, allegedly attacked Jiasmin. During the incident, her hair was reportedly cut off and she was beaten repeatedly with a stick. At one point, Jiasmin became unconscious. Later, local residents rescued her and took her to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Police Station, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Molla, said police visited the scene and prepared the inquest report. The body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The deceased’s husband, Rashid Ahmed, and his first wife, Rushna Begum, have been taken into police custody for questioning. The OC said the exact cause of death and details of the incident will be known after receiving the autopsy report.
