Jaintapur Residents Demand Cancellation of Proposed Municipality.

Naeem Ahmed, Jaintapur-Gowainghat (Sylhet). A press conference was held at Jaintapur Press Club on Saturday, August 15, demanding the cancellation of the proposed Jaintapur Municipality. The press conference was organized by the Conscious Citizens Forum. The organization claimed that the proposed municipality, comprising 12 mouzas from Nijpat and Jaintapur unions, was formed based on incorrect information and does not meet the required criteria. Forum Convener Md. Jalal Uddin said most residents of the proposed area are farmers, laborers and fishermen, while there is limited business and industrial activity. The forum demanded a fresh and impartial field investigation and urged the government to reconsider the proposal based on accurate information and the opinions of local residents. Joint Convener Burhan Ahmed, Member Secretary Abdul Qayyum Sarker, member Kamal Hossain and others were present at the press conference.
