Mohinul Islam Sujon, Crime Reporter. An alleged fraudster reportedly fled with Tk 50,000 from a fuel station in Dimla, Nilphamari, on the pretext of purchasing fuel. The incident took place at Aftab Filling Station in the upazila at around 11:30 am on Sunday (August 16). According to the filling station authorities, a businessman named Zia sent a van driver to the station with Tk 50,000 to purchase fuel. At the same time, a man arrived at the station claiming to be Zia’s brother. While the van driver was paying Tk 50,000 to the station employee for fuel, the man allegedly pressed the fuel drum, causing fuel to splash into the driver’s eyes. He then took the van driver to the station’s water pump to wash his eyes. The alleged fraudster also took the Tk 50,000 from the station employee, saying that he wanted to count the money properly before paying for the fuel. At one point, leaving the fuel drum at the station, he told the driver that he would take him to a doctor. The two then left the station premises. Later, the alleged fraudster reportedly left the van driver behind and fled with the money. After the incident, the filling station authorities searched the surrounding area for the man but could not locate him. Aftab Filling Station managers Hasan and Shahin Islam confirmed the incident. They said the man had come to the station claiming to be the businessman’s brother. When fuel splashed into the van driver’s eyes, he said he would count the money and pay for the fuel. However, he suddenly said that he would first take the driver to a doctor and then return to pay for the fuel. He never returned after leaving the station. The filling station authorities said they are preparing to take necessary legal action over the incident.
