Md. Omar Faruk | Special Correspondent. A 16-year-old girl named Sani Islam Maya was found dead in Sitakunda, Chattogram. Her father, Md. Abul Hashem, has been accused of beating and strangling her to death following a family dispute. However, the allegation has not yet been independently confirmed. The incident reportedly took place at around 10:00 am on Sunday (August 16) at the residence of former councillor Zahurul Alam in South Mahadebpur (Hasan Gomosta), Ward No. 6 of Sitakunda Municipality. The deceased, Sani Islam Maya, was the daughter of Md. Abul Hashem and Farul Begum. Their ancestral home is reportedly located in East Saidpur, Ward No. 9, Jafarnagar, Sitakunda. According to police, local residents informed the emergency service through 999, following which two separate units of Sitakunda Model Police Station rushed to the scene and recovered the girl's body. After preparing the inquest report, the body was sent to the mortuary of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sitakunda Model Police Station, Md. Moinul Islam, said the actual cause of death would be determined after the autopsy report and police investigation. Necessary legal action would be taken accordingly. The girl's death has sparked concern and discussion in the local community. Several locals alleged that she had previously been subjected to scolding and physical punishment over family disputes. Some residents said that Sani had left home with a boy a few days earlier and was later brought back. They alleged that she had been subjected to repeated reprimands and punishment since then. According to local residents, Sani had breakfast on Sunday morning and went into a room. She was later brought out of the room dead. However, what exactly happened inside the room remains unclear. Following the incident, some locals have pointed fingers at Sani's father, Abul Hashem. However, there is currently no conclusive evidence confirming the allegations of beating, strangulation, or murder, and police are investigating the matter. The family and local residents are awaiting the police investigation and autopsy report to determine the actual cause of the teenager's death. Police said that if the allegations are substantiated through the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken against those responsible.
