Attempt to Murder a Businessman in Sitakunda.4 Arrested Including a Woman.

In Sitakunda, Chattogram, a businessman was allegedly hacked, beaten, had money and a mobile phone snatched, and was threatened with death for protesting a demand for extortion money. In connection with this incident, Sitakunda Model Police Station has arrested 4 people, including one woman, in a case filed. They were arrested on Monday (17 August) around 5:00 PM during an operation. The arrested individuals are — Babul Das, Rakhal Das, Swapan Das, and Yashoda Rani Das. Police said there are multiple cases against the arrested individuals at the police station. They were later sent to court. According to the FIR, Duryodhan Dash (Sajib), a businessman from Delipara area of North Salimpur, alleged that on the morning of 27 May, several people led by Babul Das went to his father's tea shop and demanded extortion money. He alleged that when he refused to pay, he was beaten and an attempt was made to kill him by choking him. At one point, he was injured after being struck on the head with a sharp weapon. His younger brother, Pradip Dash, was also injured while trying to intervene. The FIR further alleged that the attackers took the businessman’s mobile phone and snatched 81,500 Taka from his mother. At the same time, they pressured him to pay an additional 5 lakh Taka in extortion money within the next year. It is also alleged that they threatened to kill the businessman and his family members and dispose of their bodies if the extortion money was not paid. According to the FIR, on 6 August the accused again went to the same place and demanded extortion money. At one point, it is alleged that the businessman was struck on the head and hacked with a sharp weapon with the intent to kill. Hearing his screams, locals came forward and the attackers fled. The injured were later given treatment at Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex. In this incident, a case has been filed under Sections 143, 447, 323, 324, 326, 307, 385, 379, 506, and 34 of the Penal Cod. OC Md. Mohinul Islam of Sitakunda Model Police Station said 4 people, including one woman, have been arrested in connection with the case. There are multiple cases against them at the police station. There are also allegations of harassing ordinary people in the area. The plaintiff in the case, Duryodhan Dash (Sajib) said that he and the locals are relieved that the 4 accused have been arrested.
