A mass gathering was held in Sitakunda, Chattogram, marking the second anniversary of the release from prison of former BNP Joint Secretary General and former Member of Parliament for Chattogram-4, Md. Aslam Chowdhury. The rally turned into a large public gathering on Thursday (August 20) afternoon at L.K. Siddiqui Square in Sitakunda Municipality.
The rally was organized by Sitakunda Upazila BNP and presided over by its Convener, Dr. Kamal Kadar. The event was moderated by Member Secretary Md. Morsalin. From around 3:00 pm, BNP leaders and activists from different unions and areas of the municipality began gathering at the venue.
Addressing the rally as the chief guest, Aslam Chowdhury said, “I am also a member of the Zia family, just like you. At the call of Begum Khaleda Zia, the movement for the restoration of democracy that was built on the streets of Sitakunda from 2010 to 2014 was not the achievement of one individual. The real credit belongs to the people of Sitakunda.”
He said, “Despite extreme adversity, repression and persecution, the spontaneous participation and courage shown by the people of Sitakunda on the streets will remain a milestone in the history of the country’s democratic movement. The unity and sacrifice of the people were the main strength of our movement.”
Aslam Chowdhury further said, “Our movement has not yet ended. Conspiracies are still being carried out through different strategies. As long as conspiracies continue against the Zia family and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, we will stand with the people of Sitakunda and resist all such conspiracies through continued movements and struggles, Insha’Allah.”
He said, “All initiatives undertaken by the BNP government for state rebuilding will be implemented, and all conspiracies against the interests of the country and its people will be collectively resisted.”
