Three Youth Jailed for Consuming Alcohol, Marijuana in Fatikchhari.

Jahangir Alam, Staff Reporter. ​A mobile court in Fatikchhari, Chattogram, has sentenced three youths to various terms of imprisonment and fined them for disturbing public peace after consuming country-made liquor and marijuana. The court passed the order after they were detained during raids in the Bagan Bazar Union and Nazirhat Municipality areas on Saturday night (August 22). ​The convicts have been identified as Laxman Dey (37), son of the late Dhirendra from the Puran Ramgarh area of Bagan Bazar Union; Md. Arafat (26), son of Abul Monsur; and Afaj Mia (22), son of Noor Alam, both residents of Nazirhat Municipality. ​According to sources at the Upazila administration, a joint operation was conducted by Fatikchhari Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Rahmat Ullah with the assistance of Bhujpur Police Station. The three were caught red-handed while causing public nuisance under the influence of drugs. ​Subsequently, the mobile court, conducted under Section 36(5) of the Narcotics Control Act 2018, sentenced each of them to 15 days of non-rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Tk 100. ​Following the operation, Executive Magistrate Md. Rahmat Ullah stated that the upazila administration will maintain a strict stance to curb the drug menace and uphold law and order. He added that such drive-by operations will continue regularly in the public interest to build a drug-free Fatikchhari.
