The Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed two Bangladeshi nationals back into Bangladesh through the Jaintapur border in Sylhet.
The incident took place at around 12:45 pm on Friday (August 28) in the Bagchhara area along the Jaintapur border. Upon receiving information, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained the two individuals and took them to a nearby camp.
The detainees have been identified as Hasanul Faqir (58), son of the late Motaleb Faqir, and his wife Mst. Ambia (35), residents of Madhabpur village under Dighalia Police Station in Khulna district.
According to local residents and BGB sources, a man and a woman were pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF through the Bagchhara area near Sub-Pillar No. 4 of Border Pillar No. 1302 at around 12:45 pm on Friday.
Later, personnel from the Lalakhal Border Outpost (BOP) under the Jashore Battalion apprehended them and took them to the camp. They were subsequently subjected to preliminary questioning.
During interrogation, the two detainees reportedly told BGB officials that they had gone to India around 10 years ago.
Lieutenant Colonel Zubayer Anwar, commander of the Jashore Battalion, confirmed the matter and said that the process of handing the two detainees over to Jaintapur Model Police Station was underway.
Authorities are expected to take further legal action after verifying the circumstances under which the two individuals entered Bangladesh.
