Jahangir Alam . Staff Reporter. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) foiled a major drug smuggling attempt from Myanmar, detaining three traffickers along with 1,900,000 Yaba tablets and a motorized wooden boat following a high-speed chase in the Naf River. The operation was conducted on Saturday afternoon near the Sabrang border under the jurisdiction of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB). The detainees have been identified as Md. Jamal Hossain (38) from Kulalpara, and Md. Emran (25) alongside Md. Ismail (24) from Noapara in Sabrang, Teknaf. According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off regarding a large shipment of contraband entering Bangladesh from Myanmar, a specialized patrol team took up positions at strategic points along the river. When a suspicious engine boat crossed the zero line into Bangladeshi waters at high speed, BGB personnel signaled it to stop. Ignoring the warning, the smugglers attempted to flee, triggering a pursuit by the BGB unit. Sensing capture, the perpetrators threw a plastic sack into the water to dispose of the evidence. However, BGB personnel intercepted the boat and apprehended the three individuals on the spot. Based on information provided by the detainees, a joint team from Sabrang and Shah Pari Dwip border outposts launched a search operation and recovered the floating sack near Jaliapara. Upon inspection, 190,000 pieces of Yaba pills were seized from the bag. Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hanifur Rahman Bhuiyan, Commanding Officer of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB), confirmed that the detainees and the seized narcotics are being handed over to Teknaf Model Station for legal proceedings, with a case currently being filed. He added that strict surveillance and a zero-tolerance policy against drug smuggling will continue along the border.
