Despite the potential for sufficient natural gas in Bangladesh, a gas crisis has arisen in the country due to the fascist Awami government's failure to take effective initiatives for gas extraction, commented Shama Obaid Islam Rinku, the organisational secretary of the BNP's central committee and State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. On Saturday (5 September) evening, while addressing a colourful rally organised by the Upazila and Municipal BNP on the occasion of the BNP's 48th founding anniversary in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, he made these remarks. Shama Obaid Islam said, “There is sufficient potential for natural gas in Bangladesh. However, due to the previous fascist Awami government's failure to take effective initiatives for gas extraction, a crisis has arisen in the country today. There is a plan from the government led by Tarique Rahman to tackle this crisis. Soon, the pace of improvement in various gas-dependent sectors, including electricity, will increase further.” He addressed the BNP leaders and activists, saying, “The BNP does not support any form of wrongdoing. There is clear instruction from the party that those who have not committed any wrongdoing should not be harassed unjustly.” He stated that the BNP's statesman Tarique Rahman has also given clear instructions not to harass anyone unjustly. Criticising the previous Awami League government, Shama Obaid said that during that time, various sectors, including education and agriculture, were damaged. He also mentioned that the BNP will work for the reconstruction and development of these sectors. Earlier in the afternoon, the colourful rally circled the main roads of Nagarkanda Upazila. A large number of leaders and activists from various affiliated and associated organisations, including BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, participated in the rally organised by the Upazila and Municipal BNP. Shama Obaid Islam Rinku led the rally as the chief guest. Also present were the former acting president of the Upazila BNP and chairman of Laskardia Union Habibur Rahman Babul Talukdar, general secretary of the Upazila BNP Saifur Rahman Mukul, vice president Mahabub Ali Mia, organisational secretary Shawkat Ali Sharif, personal assistant secretary to the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Fazlur Rahman, assistant attorney general Jewel Munshi Suman, joint general secretary of the district Jubo Dal Taiyabur Rahman Masud, Helal Uddin Helal, Jubo Dal leader Robiul Islam Babu, Talukdar Morad Hossain, Jamal Matubbar, and Mahmud Hasan Babu, among others from the BNP and its affiliated organisations. Later, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam Rinku released fish fry into an open water body and planted saplings.
