Jahangir Alam.Staff Reporter. The Bangladesh Army conducted a day-long free medical camp and distribution of medicines in Rangamati on Sunday (September 6) to deliver healthcare services to the doorsteps of remote and marginal communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The initiative was organized by the Rangamati Sadar Zone at the Sapchhari Union Parishad office premises. Hundreds of underprivileged women, men, and children from remote hilly areas attended the day-long camp to seek medical attention. Experienced doctors examined the patients, offered essential medical consultations, and provided free prescription medicines. Lieutenant Colonel Ekramul Rahat, Commander of the Rangamati Sadar Zone, inaugurated the humanitarian program in the morning. Speaking at the ceremony, he said, "Alongside maintaining peace, harmony, and a friendly environment in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the Army works tirelessly to improve the living standards of marginal communities. Due to geographical remoteness and physical distance, many residents cannot access timely healthcare. Our primary goal is to bring health services directly to their doorsteps. Such public welfare initiatives will continue in the future." Patients traveling from remote hilly villages expressed relief and deep satisfaction, noting that accessing medical treatment normally requires long, expensive journeys to district or sub-district health centers. Local residents highlighted that such social initiatives play a vital role in building trust, communication, and mutual harmony between the hill and Bengali communities. The event was attended by Sapchhari Union Parishad Chairman Prabin Chakma, UP Member Riton Barua, Mabikchhari Bazaar Association President Md. Saiful Islam Sagir, Sapchhari Jubo Dal President Abdul Bacha, Samaj Committee Member Md. Jahangir, along with representatives of local civil society and senior army officers.
