Pirojpur, A Dengue Hotspot.

G.M. Adol Pirojpur District Correspondent Pirojpur district is currently at the top of the Barishal Division in terms of dengue infections. The prevalence of dengue is increasing at an alarming rate across the district, raising growing concern among residents. According to the latest information from the Pirojpur District Health Department, 31 new dengue patients were admitted to the district hospital in the last 24 hours. At present, a total of 90 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at the district hospital and seven upazila health complexes.Of them, 32 patients are receiving treatment at Pirojpur District Hospital. 19 in Nesarabad,15 in Bhandaria,13 in Nazirpur, 7 in Kaukhali, and 4 in Mathbaria.So far 1905 patients have recovered after receiving treatment and have been discharged from hospitals. The Health Department said that the highest number of patients 870 have received treatment at Pirojpur District Hospital. In addition 378 patients were admitted to Bhandaria, 344 to Nesarabad, 134 to Nazirpur, 134 to Kaukhali and 90 to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complexes. With the rising number of patients, Pirojpur District Hospital is facing a severe shortage of beds and space. Due to the lack of adequate beds, dengue patients are being treated alongside general patients and even on the floor. Pirojpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman said that sufficient medicines, saline and antigen test kits for free dengue testing are available at the district hospital and upazila health complexes. He also said that free government healthcare services are being ensured for dengue patients. The district health authorities have urged people to keep their surroundings clean, remove stagnant water and use mosquito nets while sleeping both during the day and at night to prevent the spread of dengue.
