Various complaints have surfaced regarding the presence and operations of a bar named ‘Camp-Fire’ near educational institutions in the capital's Uttara area.
Locals allege that the bar engages in various irregularities, including the sale of foreign liquor banned for import and the illegal supply of liquor parcels. It is also claimed that allegations regarding drugs and prostitution have previously been raised against the establishment.
Inquiries revealed that the bar previously operated out of a building on Gausul Azam Road in Uttara Sector 14, right next to Mastermind School and College. It is alleged that the relevant authorities issued a relocation notice after the location sparked dissatisfaction among locals.
Subsequently, the bar was relocated to the BNS Building area in Uttara Model Town. However, questions have arisen again as the new location is also in close proximity to educational institutions.
According to locals, Rajuk College is situated on one side of the bar, while Paramoni Laboratory School and Cambrian School and College are on the other. Consequently, the operation of a bar so close to these institutions has caused concern among teachers, students, and guardians.
Officials from the affected educational institutions have reportedly raised objections regarding the bar's location.
Allegations suggest that various types of foreign liquor are sold and supplied as parcels from the bar at night; however, there are questions regarding whether this liquor was obtained through legal imports. Locals have demanded that the relevant authorities monitor the situation and conduct an investigation.
Despite multiple attempts to contact Shamim Ahmed, Deputy Director (North Division) of the Department of Narcotics Control, regarding these allegations, no statement could be obtained from him. However, Dewan Md. Zillur Rahman, the inspector for the area, stated that he would discuss the matter at the office. He added that regulations are not violated and that necessary action would be taken if a written complaint is received.
Meanwhile, allegations involving multiple criminal cases have also surfaced against Jewel, an individual associated with the bar's ownership. However, court records and statements from relevant authorities need to be verified regarding these allegations. When contacted by phone, Khan Monir, the Managing Director of the bar, stated that schools and colleges are located at some distance and emphasized that they possess all valid documentation for foreign liquor. He remarked that the bar had previously been located in a residential neighborhood, which led to its relocation. However, reports indicate that the bar was forced to relocate in the face of protests by students involved in the anti-discrimination movement.
The most significant question arising is how a bar obtained approval to operate in such close proximity to educational institutions and whether its operations comply with relevant regulations.
Locals are demanding a swift investigation into the bar's location, licensing, the legality of its liquor imports and sales, and its overall operations. They insist that if the allegations are substantiated, legal action should be taken against the parties involved.
