Two women have died of dengue in Rangpur within a span of 24 hours. Minara Begum passed away while undergoing treatment in the ICU of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) Hospital, and Jannati Begum died while being treated in the ICU of Prime Medical College Hospital.
Brigadier General Ashiqur Rahman, Director of RMC Hospital, confirmed the death of Minara Begum.
Hospital sources reported that Minara Begum, a resident of Pirganj Upazila, arrived in Rangpur from Dhaka on September 8 and was admitted to RMC Hospital. She was later moved to the ICU after her condition deteriorated. She passed away there on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, Jannati Begum, a resident of Mithapukur Upazila, was initially admitted to RMC Hospital after contracting dengue. She was subsequently transferred to the ICU of the private Prime Medical College Hospital as her condition worsened. She died there on Sunday afternoon.
Additionally, 20 new dengue patients have been admitted to RMC Hospital in the last 24 hours. Hospital sources indicate that a total of 434 dengue patients have received treatment at RMC Hospital so far.
Doctors state that a dengue patient's condition can deteriorate rapidly. Immediate hospitalization is required if symptoms such as severe weakness accompanying the fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding, breathing difficulties, abnormal drowsiness, or reduced urine output appear. Patients and their families should not assume recovery simply because the fever has subsided; instead, testing and treatment must continue according to medical advice.
Dr. Tauhidul Islam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at RMC, said, "A dengue patient's condition can worsen quickly. Therefore, if fever or dengue symptoms appear, one should seek medical advice immediately without negligence. If the patient's condition deteriorates, they must be admitted to the hospital without delay.
