Jahangir Alam, Staff Reporter. Amid heightened vigilance against border crimes, the Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB) intercepted a consignment of smuggled Indian cattle along the Mirsarai border in Chattogram. A patrol team seized six Indian cows during an early morning drive in the Koylarmukh border area. Two smugglers fled back into Indian territory, abandoning the cattle after being chased by border guards. According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from the Koylarmukh BOP laid an ambush around 4:30 AM on Tuesday (September 15) in Rahmatpur, approximately 200 yards inside Bangladeshi territory near border pillar 2205/6-RB. At around 5:30 AM, BGB personnel spotted two smugglers crossing into Bangladesh from India with six cows. When the patrol team challenged and chased them, the smugglers abandoned the cattle and fled back across the Indian border to evade arrest. BGB members subsequently seized the six abandoned Indian cows from the spot. The estimated market value of the recovered cattle is ৳4,10,000, according to BGB. Reiterating its "zero tolerance" policy against illegal entry, drug trafficking, and cross-border smuggling, a BGB official stated that border guards remain on high alert 24/7 to curb border crimes. BGB also urged local residents to cooperate by providing timely information to combat smuggling and criminal activities.
