Where is security in this independent country?
Taslima Khandokar Nusrat (Sarail Upazila).
In this independent country,
the flag bought with blood
hangs on walls, echoes in slogans
but the ink of the pen dries out of fear.
Is asking questions a crime?
Is speaking the truth a conspiracy?
The moment you stand with a microphone in hand,
the growl of shadows follows behind.
News is supposed to be a mirror
a mirror that shows society’s wounds.
At the sound of that mirror shattering,
sleep breaks again and again in the night.
Cameras are stopped.
Notebooks are snatched away.
Names are cut from the list.
And yet they say "independence" out loud.
Listen,
if you break the pen, history does not stop being written.
If you choke the voice, truth does not die.
The journalist who stands alone on the street today
is tomorrow the thousand voices of the people.
In this independent country,
we demand security for journalists.
Not a license for words,
but a guarantee to return home safely.
Because independence is not just the flag.
Independence means the right to ask questions.
