Staff Reporter Eight people, including a woman, acquitted by the High Court in the murder case of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, have been released from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail and the Kashimpur Women's Central Jail in Gazipur. They were released in phases starting from 12:30 PM on Tuesday (September 15). According to prison sources, the released individuals are Md. Shamim, Hafez Abdul Kader, Motiur Rahman Shakil, Afsar Uddin, Imran Hossain Mamun, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Abdur Rahim Sharif, and Kamrun Nahar Moni. Moni was accompanied by her seven-year-old daughter, Mobasshera Khanam Rathi, upon her release. Confirming the matter, Md. Zakir Hossain, Jailer of Kashimpur High Security Central Jail, stated that the inmates were released in phases after verifying the necessary legal documents and acquittal orders received from the High Court. Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a student at Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Feni, was burned to death after protesting sexual harassment. A trial court had previously sentenced all 16 accused to death. However, following the appeal hearings, the High Court rejected the death reference, granted their appeals, and acquitted the eight individuals. Following the completion of required legal procedures based on the High Court verdict, they were set free today from the two Kashimpur prisons.
