Former Mirsarai Vice Chairman Detained Day After Eye Surgery.

Jwel Nag, Mirsharai Correspondent: Former vice chairman of Mirsarai Upazila Parishad, Ferdous Hossain Arif, has been detained by police. He was taken into custody from a residence in Chattogram city at around 2:00am on Thursday, according to his wife, Rowshan Ara Ratna. Ratna said Arif underwent eye surgery at around 11:00am on Wednesday. He was scheduled to return to the hospital on Thursday for a dressing change and follow-up treatment. She also said that Arif had undergone three surgeries on his retina over the past four months. According to Ratna, the family had requested that Arif be allowed to appear at the police station himself after completing his scheduled eye dressing. However, she said the police did not accept the request. “After around 10 to 12 police personnel arrived at the residence at about 2:00am, they took him to the police station,” Ratna said. It was not immediately clear under which case, or on what specific charges, Arif had been detained. Police had not provided any official information regarding the matter at the time of reporting. The officer-in-charge of Halishahar Police Station confirmed Arif’s detention when contacted, but declined to provide further details.
