Biplab Kumar Das, Staff Reporter. Due to a family dispute, four people, including the wife, have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of husband Hasan Sheikh (35) in Faridpur. The court has also imposed a fine of 20,000 taka on each of the accused, with an additional one-year imprisonment in default of payment. In addition, for the crime of concealing the body after the murder, each of the convicted has been sentenced to an additional seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of five thousand taka, which will be considered as six months of simple imprisonment in default of payment. However, the judge has made it clear in the verdict that the two sentences will be executed simultaneously. On Wednesday afternoon, Judge Md. Sharif Uddin of the special court (District and Sessions Judge) in Faridpur announced the verdict in this sensational case. The convicts sentenced to life imprisonment are— the deceased's wife Farida Begum (38), Shajahan Matubbar (44) of Jhaukhola village, Faruk Biswas (43), and Chandu Sheikh (30). At the time of the verdict announcement, the main accused Farida Begum was absconding, while the other three accused were present in court. They were later sent to the district jail. According to the case documents, farmer Hasan Sheikh went missing after leaving home on the night of May 9, 2018, after receiving a phone call. Four days later, on May 13, police recovered his body wrapped in a sack from a sugarcane field in Jhaukhola village. Following the incident, the victim's father filed a case at Kotwali police station, and after investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against four individuals. Public Prosecutor (PP) S M Azizur Rahman Biku stated that the murder was planned due to the wife's income and family disputes. The court delivered this verdict as the crime was proven beyond reasonable doubt through evidence and testimony.
