Life imprisonment father-in-law in the case of raping daughter-in-law, in Madhukhali, Faridpur.

Biplab Kumar Das, Staff Reporter. A person named Hafizar Sheikh (60) has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court in a case filed for the rape of his daughter-in-law in Madhukhali, Faridpur. At the same time, he has been fined 20,000 taka, and in default, an additional three years of rigorous imprisonment has been imposed. On Thursday afternoon, the judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal (District and Sessions Judge) Shamima Parveen announced the verdict in the presence of the accused. After the verdict, he was sent to the district jail under strict police escort. The convicted Hafizar Sheikh is a resident of Mitain village in the Bagat Union of Madhukhali Upazila. According to the case details, the victim woman was married to Hafizar's son with family consent. Since the marriage, the accused father-in-law had been making immoral proposals to the woman at various times. Despite multiple family arbitration sessions regarding this, Hafizar did not change his behaviour. The complaint states that on August 25, 2022, at around 11 am, Hafizar forcibly raped the victim by luring her into his room. Fearing social stigma, the victim did not suppress the incident and went to her father's house, where she discussed the matter with relatives and filed a case at Madhukhali police station. After investigating the case, SI Syed Tofazzal Hossain of Madhukhali police station submitted a charge sheet to the court on February 16, 2023, naming Hafizar Sheikh as the sole accused. Confirming the matter, the state lawyer (PP) Advocate Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan stated that after a lengthy hearing and analysis of evidence, the court has delivered this exemplary verdict as the allegations against the accused have been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
