CHATTAGAM: Nasir Uddin Babul (45), General Secretary of the Upazila Nationalist Sramik Dal in Sandwip, was shot late Friday night during an attack by rival groups.
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Friday (September 18) in front of Need Bangla Government Primary School, located south of Panditer Hat in Musapur Union under Sandwip Upazila.
The victim, Babul, is the brother of Abdul Karim, Joint Convener of the Musapur Union Jubo Dal. According to local sources, tension had been running high in the area following the recent arrest of Abdul Karim in connection with the abduction of a police officer.
Locals reported that miscreants opened fire on Babul in front of the school before fleeing the scene. Nearby residents rescued him and took him to a local private hospital in Sandwip. As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) later that night.
Confirming the incident, Sandwip Upazila BNP Convener Advocate Abu Taher said, "Nasir Uddin Babul was admitted to CMCH around 2:00 AM. Terrorists carried out a planned attack on him."
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sandwip Police Station, Sujan Halder, stated that a police team inspected the scene shortly after receiving the news. He assured that the situation in the area is currently under control. However, no written complaint or case has been filed yet, and police are investigating the matter.
