Colorful Program Marks 'International Snakebite Awareness Day' in Feni Staff Reporter Emphasizing that a snakebite is not a supernatural occurrence but a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment, 'International Snakebite Awareness Day 2026' was observed in Feni with a message to build public awareness. To mark the occasion, the Civil Surgeon's Office organized a colorful rally and a discussion meeting on September 19. The event was led by Feni Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Arifuzzaman. In the morning, an awareness rally originated from the premises of the Civil Surgeon's Office and paraded through the main thoroughfares of the town. Following the rally, an important discussion meeting took place at the office auditorium. Speaking as the chief guest, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Arifuzzaman said, "When bitten by a snake, priceless time must not be wasted by going to ojhas (traditional healers) or seeking exorcisms. Bringing the victim to the nearest government hospital as quickly as possible is the only way to save a life. Necessary medical care and anti-venom are available at every government hospital." He laid special emphasis on proper first aid to prevent snakebite casualties in rural areas and on dispelling various superstitions prevalent among the public. Officials and employees at all levels from the Feni Civil Surgeon's Office spontaneously participated in the rally and discussion meeting. Speakers pledged to continue spreading this awareness message at the field level.
