Ishwarganj (Mymensingh) Correspondent. Allegations have surfaced regarding the collection of excessive fees for Class XI admission at Ishwarganj Government Degree College in Mymensingh. A field visit to the college revealed that students enrolling for the 2026 HSC first-year session are being issued receipts for Tk 3,130. An additional Tk 300 is being charged for a 30-page booklet containing information and guidelines. When Abdul Hannan, the Vice-Principal and head of the admission committee, was asked about the Tk 3,130 admission fee and the additional charges, he could not specify the breakdown of the costs. Later, Principal Rafiqul Islam Khan explained that although the fee schedule signed by him on September 2, 2026, for the 2026-27 academic session stipulated a total of Tk 2,850 (including admission and other fees), a lump sum of Tk 3,130 is being collected at the Agrani Bank Ishwarganj branch without itemizing the specific charges on the receipt. Furthermore, an additional Tk 300 is collected when students submit the receipt to the office to obtain the admission form. Consequently, while the college-mandated fee is Tk 2,850, the actual amount collected is Tk 3,430—an excess of Tk 580 per student. The Vice-Principal and head of the admission committee stated that there had been a calculation error which would be rectified later. Regarding the extra Tk 300, he explained that it was charged for the information and guidelines booklet, a practice common to all colleges. Principal Rafiqul Islam Khan stated that while the fee schedule for the 2026-27 academic session set the total at Tk 2,850, he was unaware that a higher amount was being collected. He added that if such an overcharge had occurred, the money would be refunded to the students. Commenting on the matter, Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Director (College Branch) of the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Mymensingh Region, stated that there is no provision for collecting any fees other than those authorized by the principal (covering admission and internal charges), and collecting money without issuing a proper receipt constitutes an irregularity.
