Staff Reporter. The district administration and high levels of the government have expressed a strict stance to maintain normal law and order and ensure the safety of general citizens at any cost in the port city of Chittagong. Stating that political instability or any form of terrorism and anarchy will not be tolerated in Chittagong, Minister for Water Resources Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee said that any misadventure to create chaos will be suppressed politically and legally. He made these remarks while talking to reporters on Wednesday (September 23) following a special view-exchange meeting on the overall law and order situation of the district, held at the Chittagong District Commissioner's office. Referring to the flash processions and attempts to cause instability by the Awami League during the meeting, the Minister said, "The Awami League is a banned political party. They are trying to create unrest in society by bringing out flash processions in various areas. Under no circumstances will they be allowed to carry out such anarchy and terrorism. We will tackle this politically on one hand, while on the other, the law enforcement agencies will remain on highest alert and take legal action." Reassuring the city residents, the Water Resources Minister added that the highest priority is being given to ensuring that ordinary people can maintain a safe and normal life. The administration and public representatives will work together in the field on a priority basis to take immediate action against theft, mugging, robbery, illicit arms recovery, and drug eradication. In response to a question regarding law amendments and administrative reforms, he noted that long-accumulated problems cannot be eliminated overnight. However, work on drafting new laws and making necessary amendments to improve the situation is underway at full speed. At the same meeting, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Dr. Shahadat Hossain strongly demanded social security and permanent solutions to these problems. He said, "Permanent peace is not possible through evictions or forced enforcement of the law alone. Alongside maintaining law and order, social education, evaluation of economic realities, and the coordinated role of state institutions must be ensured." Presided over by Chittagong District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, the important view-exchange meeting was attended by top law enforcement officials of the district, representatives from various government departments, and local public representatives.
