Smuggled Goods Worth Tk 6.06 Million Seized Along Gowainghat Border, Including 3,500 Kg of Indian Onions.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian onions, liquor and other smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 6.063 million during a special operation along the Gowainghat border in Sylhet. Acting on a tip-off, a special operation team of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted a raid in the Pratappur border area of Gowainghat upazila on Tuesday night. During the operation, approximately 3,500 kilograms of Indian onions, 120 bottles of Indian liquor and other smuggled goods were seized. According to the BGB, the country has witnessed good onion production this season. Taking advantage of the situation, a group has been illegally bringing Indian onions into the country and supplying them to the market, which could harm local farmers and create downward pressure on onion prices. Considering the matter, special operations have been intensified along the border areas, the BGB said. The BGB further stated that intelligence activities and regular operations will continue to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking through the border.
