Ten years of rigorous imprisonment for a youth for attempting to rape a madrasa student in Nagarkanda, Faridpur.

A youth named Miraj Sheikh (35) has been sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment by the court for attempting to rape a child madrasa student by luring her into his home in Nagarkanda, Faridpur. The convicted Miraj Sheikh is a resident of Nagarkanda Upazila. On Wednesday (23 September) afternoon, Judge Shamima Parveen of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Faridpur announced this verdict in a crowded courtroom. In addition to the prison sentence, the accused has been fined 20,000 Taka, which, if not paid, will result in an additional year of rigorous imprisonment. According to court sources, on 28 August 2023, at noon, the victim child was playing in front of the accused Miraj Sheikh's house. At that time, Miraj lured her into his home by showing her sweets or various temptations. Then, despite the child's unwillingness, an attempt was made to rape her. In this incident, the child's father filed a case at the Nagarkanda police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. After investigating the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Moniruzzaman of Nagarkanda police station submitted a charge sheet (accusation document) to the court, naming Miraj Sheikh as the sole accused. After a lengthy judicial process, during which the testimonies of a total of 9 witnesses were taken and related evidence was reviewed, the judge delivered this verdict as the allegations against the accused were proven beyond doubt. The public prosecutor (PP) for the state, Advocate Golam Rabbani, confirmed the matter regarding Ratan Roy, stating, "We were able to prove the allegations against the accused in court one hundred percent. Justice has been established in this verdict, and the state is completely satisfied." At the time of the verdict announcement, the accused Miraj Sheikh was present in the courtroom. After the verdict was delivered, he was sent to Faridpur District Jail under strict police escort.
