Kalapara (Patuakhali) Correspondent.
In Kalapara of Patuakhali, the people using the middle ditch have a ghat, there are boats, but there is no way to reach the ghat. At high tide the path is submerged in water, and at low tide it is knee-deep in mud. Hundreds of people of some villages have to step on those tears by force. Sometimes you have to walk over other people's houses in the Ghat. This is how the people who use the canals are suffering for about seven/eight months of the year.
On going to the ground on Thursday, the locals said that the same situation has been going on for a long time but no permanent solution has been found. This ghat is an important communication route for the people of Mithaganj village of Mithaganj union and some surrounding villages. People of various professions including teachers-students, patients, children, elderly people and farmers travel on this road every day. But lack of connectivity increases their suffering during monsoon season and high tide. When the tidal water rises, the connection path of the ghat is submerged in water. As a result, there is no opportunity to walk. Another irony is created when the water goes down. Situation like getting stuck in tears. Due to this, many are forced to reach the Ghat by taking an alternative route or over other people's houses. This is a picture of Ghat in Tiakhali Union. On the other side, Mithaganj Union part is relatively good, but during the rains, traveling there becomes risky. Especially during low tide, it becomes difficult for the wading passengers.
Abdur Rahman Sikder, a local shopkeeper of Kheyaghat area of Tiakhali Union, said that people cannot travel through this road during high tide. I have been seeing this condition of the road since childhood. But teachers, students also use this way. Elevating the road will solve the problem.
Imam and Khatib Maulana of Mithaganj Bara Jame Mosque. Neshar Uddin said, to cross the ditch during the tide, the clothes have to be lifted very high. This is embarrassing for women. Again, you have to cross the knee-high ridge in the valley to climb to the ghat.
Kheya Yatri Md. Alamin Mia saidThere are problems on both sides. But the situation in the north bank is worse. If the road from Beribandh to Kheyaghat is built higher, the long-standing problem will be solved.
The sailor of Kheyaghat said. According to Jahangir Alam, the path to the ghat is filled with water at high tide, and there are knee-deep wats in the low tide. People cannot move properly. Many times we have to sit all day as there are no passengers.
Mithaganj Government Primary School assistant teacher Deepa Sikder said, I have been working here for three years. It has become difficult to come to school every day from Kalapara city. Teachers, students, especially children, elderly and patients suffer more.
The head teacher of the school. Asaduzzaman said, the teachers of our school come from Kalapara city. Apart from this, there are two Madrasahs and a High School in the area. Many teachers of these institutes also have to use this kheya. A permanent solution to the problem is not possible without raising the link road. I have applied to Kalapara upazila executive officer to resolve the matter.
Kalapara LGED Engineer Md. Moniruzzaman said, when the water rises in the tide, it sinks in this Khyaghat, and fills up with tears in the low tide. In fact, the link road needs to be elevated with soil. I will raise it in the next monthly meeting of Upazila Parishad for funding.
