Students Shutdown at CUET Enters Third Day.

Jahangir Alam, Staff Reporter. Students at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) continued their complete shutdown for the third consecutive day on Thursday, protesting the removal of the recently appointed Vice-Chancellor and demanding his reinstatement. As part of the demonstration, protesters locked the university's main gate in the morning, entirely disrupting administrative activities and office services. The demonstrating students organized a human chain in front of the central Shaheed Minar on campus, announcing a one-point demand and vowing to continue the shutdown until their requirement is met. A torch procession is also scheduled for Thursday evening. According to sources, Prof. Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem was removed from the post of CUET Vice-Chancellor on Monday, just 56 days after his appointment. The Ministry of Education subsequently appointed Prof. Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) as the new VC. Terming the ministry's decision "unjustified," students launched the movement the following day to demand the reinstatement of the removed VC. Meanwhile, the newly appointed VC, Prof. Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam, is currently staying in Chattogram to assume his office. However, he has been unable to enter the campus due to the ongoing student protests and the locked gate. The university administration has yet to issue an official statement regarding the situation.
