Questions Raised Over Alleged Financial Transactions: Is Transfer an Adequate Administrative Step, or Is an Independent Investigation Needed? Md. Omar Faruk, Special Correspondent. Questions have been raised among local residents and some alleged victims over whether a full and visible investigation has been conducted into allegations against Sub-Inspector (SI) Milton of Bar Aulia Highway Police Station, following his transfer after an investigative report raised allegations of alleged financial collection from various transport-related sectors, harassment and abuse of authority. A recent investigative report published by The Daily Bangla Sky alleged that SI Milton had collected money from individuals and organizations associated with the transport sector. The report also referred to an alleged calculation showing a total collection of Tk 836,500 in August, along with allegations involving mobile financial service transactions and questions regarding a purported fixed deposit (FDR) in the name of a family member. However, the allegations have not been independently verified, and no conclusion regarding their truth can be drawn solely from the published report. Verification would require examination of relevant financial records, transaction information, official duty records and other supporting documents. Transferred About a Week After the Report—What Comes Next? According to relevant sources, SI Milton was transferred approximately one week after the report was published. A transfer, however, is an administrative measure and does not by itself establish the truth of any allegation or constitute a disciplinary finding. This has led to a central question among local residents: if the allegations warranted preliminary scrutiny, has a comprehensive investigation been initiated or completed alongside the transfer? If the allegations are found to be true, will appropriate departmental and legal action be taken in accordance with applicable rules? Conversely, if the allegations are found to be unsubstantiated, will that also be formally established through an investigation? Will the Alleged Financial Transactions Be Verified? To determine the authenticity of the alleged financial figures, investigators could lawfully examine statements from the concerned individuals, mobile financial service records, bank transactions and other relevant documents. If any financial transactions are found to have occurred, key issues would include the sender and recipient, date, stated purpose of the transaction, and whether any connection existed between such transactions and the officer’s official duties. Without examining such evidence, it would be difficult to establish the actual nature of the allegations. Official Duty Records Could Also Be Relevant Records relating to vehicle inspections, traffic cases, fines, vehicle detention or release, and other official activities conducted while performing highway duties could also be reviewed. Such records may help determine whether any alleged financial transactions or other allegations had a connection with the officer’s official responsibilities. 🔎 New Allegations and Public Questions According to an unnamed source, additional serious allegations have also surfaced against SI Milton. The source claimed that, on several occasions, multiple women were allegedly brought to the police station late at night and that allegations involving overnight stays and drug use had also been raised. These allegations have not been independently verified. No conclusion can therefore be drawn regarding their authenticity without an appropriate investigation and supporting evidence. If such allegations are substantiated, questions of accountability and appropriate departmental action would naturally arise. At the same time, the allegations should be investigated fairly so that the facts can be established rather than assumed. The development has also prompted questions among some members of the public as to whether the transfer alone is sufficient to address the allegations. SI Milton's Response SI Milton has previously denied the allegations, describing them as false, baseless and motivated. He has also denied allegations of collecting money, stating that he has no involvement in such activities and that the allegations were made with the intention of targeting him. Local Residents Ask: What Is the Status of the Investigation? A section of local residents and alleged victims say that a transfer alone does not resolve allegations. They argue that if evidence of financial transactions, abuse of authority or other misconduct is found, appropriate departmental and legal procedures should follow. They also question whether the authorities will ensure transparent investigation and accountability so that similar allegations do not arise at his new place of posting. Transfer Alone Is Not the End of the Matter When serious allegations are raised against a police officer, two issues are important: an impartial examination of the allegations and a fair opportunity for the accused officer to respond. If the allegations are proven, appropriate action should be taken under the law and departmental regulations. At the same time, if the allegations are not substantiated, that should also be clearly established through a proper investigation. The central question now remains: Will there be a full and impartial investigation into the allegations of financial irregularities and abuse of authority raised against SI Milton—or will the matter end with his transfer? Local residents and those who have raised the allegations are now awaiting clarification from the relevant authorities.
