Biplab Kumar Das, Staff Reporter: In the North Channel Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila, relief materials and financial assistance have been provided to the helpless families who lost everything due to the severe erosion of the Padma River. Under the Prime Minister's relief fund, rice and cash were distributed to these affected families by the Member of Parliament for Faridpur-3, Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf. On Saturday (26 September) afternoon, he participated in a humanitarian programme organised by the North Channel Union BNP and handed over this assistance to several hundred affected families. During a brief gathering held during the distribution of relief, Member of Parliament Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf said, "My late father, Chowdhury Kamal Ibn Yusuf, had a deep spiritual connection with the people of the char area of Faridpur. Before his death, he entrusted me with the responsibility of serving and protecting the people of the chars. Whenever the people of this char area have faced any danger, our family has always stood by them." At this time, expressing anger over the permanent solution to river erosion, the MP further stated, "If sustainable river management and effective measures had been taken in these vulnerable and erosion-prone areas over the past decade, the people of the char area would not have to face such a horrific situation today. We are making every effort to take long-term and effective measures to prevent the erosion of the Padma River in the near future." Among others present at the event were Nazmul Hasan Chowdhury Ranjan, General Secretary of Kotwali Thana BNP, Tanvir Chowdhury Rubel, Joint Convener of Metropolitan BNP, and former Chairman of North Channel Union, Md. Mostakur Rahman, along with local dignitaries and leaders of the party's affiliated organisations. After the gathering, the Member of Parliament personally handed over rice as food assistance and cash for rehabilitation to the members of families who lost their homes due to river erosion.
