Allegation of Threatening New Bride with Divorce Over Demand for 5 Lakh Taka and Land in Feni.

In Narayanpur Thakur Bari area of Feni, a husband has allegedly been threatening his new wife, Aparna Chakraborty, with divorce demanding five lakh taka and land as dowry. The couple has a one-month-old baby boy. According to the complaint, Aparna Chakraborty and Chhoton were married through family arrangement. A son was born in their family after the marriage. However, recently husband Chhoton demanded five lakh taka and five decimals of land from his wife, alleged Aparna and her family. He also told her that he will not continue the marriage if the demand is not met, according to the victim. In this incident, Aparna's family filed a written complaint at the Bogdadiya Investigation Center in Feni as plaintiff. After the complaint, police went to the spot and investigated the matter. In this regard, police members of the investigation center told journalists that since the accused husband is currently abroad, it would be better to take initiative to settle the matter legally through the court. On the other hand, Aparna's family alleges that Chhoton has an extramarital affair with a woman from Cox's Bazar. They also claim that he has been told that he will be given 10 lakh taka and 10 decimals of land for the purpose of marrying that woman. However, the independent veracity of these allegations could not be verified immediately. Aparna Chakraborty said, "My husband told me that if my family can write five lakh taka and five decimals of land in his name, he will live with me. Otherwise, it will not be possible to continue the family." Several local residents also spoke of various complaints about Chhoton's behavior. However, these allegations also could not be independently verified. When contacted over telephone with Chhoton, who is staying in Malaysia, he told reporters that he is not obliged to talk to journalists about this matter. As a result, his detailed statement could not be obtained. The incident of marital discord with a one-month-old child has caused concern among locals. The victim's family demands that the matter be considered from a humanitarian point of view and legal action be taken through proper investigation.
