13-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped in Cumilla After Online Romance TikTok acquaintance turns into Imo relationship; youth accused of luring girl to remote hilly area with promise of wedding invitation. M A Khayer Emon, Cumilla Correspondent A 13-year-old girl from Dhaka was allegedly raped and physically assaulted after travelling to Cumilla following an online relationship with a young man she reportedly met through TikTok and later communicated with on Imo. The girl was allegedly lured to Cumilla with an invitation to a wedding and later taken to an isolated area at the foothills of Mainamati, where she was allegedly raped and assaulted. Police subsequently rescued her after receiving a call to the national emergency service 999 and arrested the accused, identified as Rajib Ahmed. Rajib, son of Azgar Ali of Mirpur Uttarpara village under Mainamati Union in Burichang upazila of Cumilla, recently completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination. According to police and the victim's family, Rajib became acquainted with the girl through TikTok and later developed a relationship with her through Imo. On Friday (September 25), he allegedly asked her to come to Cumilla, saying that she was being invited to a wedding. The girl reportedly got off a bus in the Cumilla Cantonment area at around 9:00pm, where Rajib received her. They later had a meal together at a hotel. At around 1:00am, Rajib allegedly took her towards the hilly area near Mainamati Government Primary School, reportedly on the pretext of taking her home. The girl alleged that she was taken to an isolated place, where she was raped several times and physically assaulted until around 3:00am. She was allegedly left injured at the spot as Rajib fled the area. Police said they received a call through the national emergency service 999 and subsequently rescued the girl from an area near Mainamati Government Primary School in the early hours of Saturday. Inspector Surajit Barua of the Devpur Police Outpost said police immediately responded to the emergency call and rescued the girl. As her physical condition had deteriorated, she was provided with initial medical treatment. Police identified the accused with the help of photographs and a mobile phone number found with the victim, the police official said. Later, police launched an operation to arrest Rajib. Burichang Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lutfur Rahman confirmed on Saturday night that Rajib Ahmed had been arrested in connection with the allegation. Legal proceedings, including filing of a case, are underway, police said.
