Staff Reporter, Dhaka. The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) of Police has arrested Shah Alam Anik, the Vice-President of the Bhashantek Thana unit of Jubo League. He was arrested from the Cantonment area on Sunday (September 27). DB sources revealed that Shah Alam Anik had close ties with Shahadat, a notorious top criminal from Mirpur. Investigations indicated that Anik acted as an agent for Shahadat and Ibrahim. DB stated that preliminary investigations have substantiated allegations regarding his involvement in underground criminal activities. Shafiqur Rahman, the chief (Additional Commissioner) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police, confirmed Anik's arrest. He said, "We detained him a short while ago and have taken him into our custody. There are numerous allegations against him. We are currently interrogating him." Shah Alam Anik’s father is Abu Sayeed. His ancestral home is in Narsingdi, and he resided in the Parbat Senpara area of Mirpur, Dhaka. DB sources claim that Anik was directly involved in the attack, vandalism, and looting at 'Brownfish Studio'—owned by content creator Salman Mohammad Muqtadir—located at New Guinea Condominium City near the ECB Chattar on Saturday night. However, law enforcement agencies have not yet officially released detailed information regarding his specific involvement in this incident. Local sources stated that Anik was known in the area as a henchman for Mainul Hossain Nikhil, the General Secretary of the Awami League's central Jubo League, and Ilias Molla, the local Member of Parliament for Mirpur. He faces allegations of involvement in various criminal activities across the Mirpur, Bhashantek, Kafrul, Pallabi, and Cantonment areas during the tenure of the Awami League government. Sources also indicated that multiple cases have been filed against him, including charges related to criminal activities. Additionally, there are allegations that Anik was at the forefront of efforts to suppress the student-led mass uprising. Sources further claim that he maintained regular contact with Awami League leaders residing abroad. Following the fall of the Awami League government, allegations surfaced regarding his involvement in organizing and conducting the activities of a banned political party. According to sources, Anik was directly implicated in incidents involving the detonation of crude bombs and the torching of buses in the Mirpur, Pallabi, Bhashantek, and Kafrul areas. He is also alleged to have played a role in executing directives received from abroad within the country. Earlier, on Friday night, Motahar Hossain Khan Sufal—younger brother of Central Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil—was arrested in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area. Sources claim that Sufal and Anik were jointly involved in various activities aimed at inciting unrest in Dhaka.
