To increase the production of indigenous fish, conserve aquatic biodiversity and ensure sustainable management of fisheries resources, 223 kg of fish fry have been released in various water bodies in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram. Under the 2026-2027 fiscal year, with the aim of developing fisheries resources and increasing the production of indigenous fish, this fry release program was implemented in selected inland and institutional water bodies at the initiative of the Upazila Fisheries Department. Under the program, fry of various species of fish were released in Mohamaya Lake, Upazila Parishad Pond, Mirsarai Thana Pond, Bawachhara Lake, water body of the Upazila Health Complex, Jorarganj Highway Thana Pond and the water body of the Fire Service Office of the upazila. According to relevant sources, among the fry released in the water bodies there are various species of indigenous fish. These fry will grow up and play an important role in increasing fish production and availability in local water bodies. At the same time, it is expected that this initiative will also be effective in maintaining the balance of natural water bodies, increasing the breeding of indigenous fish and conserving aquatic biodiversity. Concerned officials have called on the local people to be more aware of stopping illegal fishing, preventing water pollution and conserving fry to protect fisheries resources. According to them, if active participation of local people can be ensured along with government initiatives, the production of indigenous fish in the water bodies of Mirsarai will increase significantly. Concerned people also think that through regular release of fry in various water bodies of the upazila, there will be a positive impact on the development of fisheries resources, creation of employment and meeting the nutritional needs of the local people.
