A total of 111 rounds of live ammunition, two rifle magazines and two hand grenades have been recovered during a law enforcement operation in the Sapri River area of Jaintapur in Sylhet.
On September 27, at around 4:20 pm, a special operation was conducted based on a tip-off by a team of SRB-9 along the bank of the Sapri River inc front of the residence of a man named Jayanek Purush Islam in Baurbhag Malifaud village under Ujipur Union of Jaintapur Police Station.
During the operation, a thorough search of the riverbank led to the recovery of two rifle magazines, two hand grenades and 111 rounds of live ammunition for .303 rifles, which had reportedly been looted from a police station. The items were found abandoned. However, no one associated with the recovered arms and ammunition could be arrested immediately.
As the two hand grenades were explosive devices, they were destroyed in accordance with regulations by the Bomb Disposal Unit of SRB-9 in Sylhet.
The recovered evidence was later handed over to Jaintapur Police Station for further legal action. Intelligence activities and operations by SRB-9 to maintain law and order and recover looted arms and ammunition are continuing across the country.
