Life imprisonment for a youth named Raju Sheikh for child rape in Faridpur Biplab Kumar Das, Staff Reporter: A youth named Raju Sheikh has been sentenced to life imprisonment for child rape in Faridpur. On Tuesday (29 September) afternoon, the Honourable Judge Md. Abul Bashar Mia of the district's Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal delivered this verdict. At this time, the Honourable Judge also imposed a fine of two lakh taka on the accused, stating that failure to pay would result in an additional year in prison. From the case details, it is known that on the evening of 1 March 2021, the victim's mother, Asia Begum, left the child alone at home for cooking purposes. When the child went outside to answer nature's call at night, Raju Sheikh, the son of Shesh Dulur from the Ayoddha Dhalar Pahar area of Charbhadrason upazila, who had been lying in wait, wrapped a towel around the 13-year-old child's mouth and took her to his home, where he raped her throughout the night. The next morning, the child was found unconscious at the accused's house. On the same day, the child’s mother, Asia Begum, filed a case at Charbhadrason police station, and after all the evidence in the case, the Honourable Judge delivered this verdict today. The public prosecutor in the case, Advocate Golam Rabbani Bhuiya Ratan, stated that they are pleased with the verdict given by the Honourable Judge in the case. He believes that this will lead to a decrease in the number of rapes in the country.
