Md. Sohel Rana, Rajshahi Correspondent Charghat: Local residents formed a human chain and blocked the highway in Charghat, Rajshahi, demanding the immediate arrest and maximum punishment of the accused named in the FIR for the murder of Bakul. The program was held on Tuesday (September 29) at around 4:00 PM at the Halidagachi Railgate area on the Charghat-Bagha highway. Local residents, public representatives, and leaders and activists of various political parties, along with people from different walks of life, participated in the human chain. Speakers demanded exemplary punishment by quickly arresting those involved in the murder of Bakul. According to the First Information Report (FIR), due to previous enmity, when Bakul visited his in-laws' house in Durlabhpur village under Puthia Upazila at around 11:30 PM on August 28, the accused forcibly detained him. It is alleged that they tied his hands and feet with ropes and beat him with a GI pipe. Locals rescued him in critical condition and admitted him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment last Thursday. Bakul's wife, Fahima Khatun, filed a case as the plaintiff with the Belpukur Police Station of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police on August 29. Ratan Ali, Swapan, Md. Rois, Nafel Uddin Ukil, and Md. Baki have been named as accused in the case. All of them are residents of Durlabhpur village in Puthia. Among others present at the human chain were Rajshahi District Jamaat Assistant Secretary Nazmul Haq, Rakibul Islam Olive (son of Abu Sayeed Chand, MP for the Charghat-Bagha constituency), local UP member and social worker Muktar Hossain Mukta, along with people from various professions. Traffic movement on the highway remained halted for nearly 45 minutes during the demonstration. Charghat Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahabubur Rahman stated that he was present at the spot. Traffic movement returned to normal after talking to and reassuring the protesters. Since the incident falls under the jurisdiction of Belpukur Police Station, the matter was communicated to the OC of the respective police station.
