Zianagar Pirojpur, Correspondent. Police have arrested the 85-year-old, ailing father of a Chhatra League leader in Zianagar, Pirojpur. On the evening of Monday, September 28, officers from Indurkani Police Station detained him in front of a shop near his home in Kalaiya village. The detainee, Zainal Abedin Alam Munshi, is the father of Atiqur Rahman Sagir—the president of the Zianagar Upazila Chhatra League—and serves as the president of the local Ward No. 5 Awami League unit. According to local sources, Alam Munshi had stepped out of his house on Monday evening to pay his electricity bill and was standing in front of a roadside shop when Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Sani of the local police station detained him and took him into custody. Sahida Begum, the daughter of the detained Alam Munshi, stated that their home had been subjected to vandalism, looting, and arson on the evening of August 5, 2024. Following that incident, her father had been staying in Dhaka, where he underwent long-term hospital treatment for age-related ailments, including diabetes and heart disease. He returned home earlier this September. She noted that there were no political cases filed against him either before or after August 5, 2024. Mohammad Mohabbat Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Indurkani Police Station, confirmed that Alam Munshi was formally arrested in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and was sent to the Pirojpur Court on Tuesday.
