Md. Sohel Rana, Rajshahi Representative Serious allegations of bribery have surfaced against Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md. Abdul Motaleb of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, accusing him of releasing two alleged drug dealers in exchange for BDT 60,000. Following a raid on September 17, 2026, in the Char Baliaghata area under Sadar Police Station, three individuals were initially detained. However, after negotiations, two of them were released upon receiving money via cash and bKash. According to sources related to the complaint, ASI Motaleb and his accompanying force conducted a drive in the Char Baliaghata area of Islampur Union on September 17. During the operation, local residents A. Hannan, Sagar Ali, and Khaleda Begum were detained. Later, following negotiations, a case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act against only A. Hannan, showing a recovery of 1.2 kg of cannabis, while the other two detainees, Khaleda Begum and Sagar Ali, were released. Khaleda Begum, one of the released individuals, voluntarily spoke out regarding the incident. Alleging police misconduct, she stated, "Officer Motaleb entered my house, seized 1.2 kg of cannabis, and handcuffed us. He then demanded BDT 100,000 to release the two of us. Unable to arrange that much money, I mortgaged my gold earrings and ring to Awal, a bKash agent in the Dorga area, to obtain BDT 50,000 via bKash, and gave Officer Motaleb another BDT 10,000 in cash that was at home. Only then were we released." Khaleda Begum further mentioned that her husband consumes drugs. She alleged that ASI Motaleb had previously taken BDT 100,000 from them and frequently demands money whenever the opportunity arises. However, off-camera, she admitted her involvement in drug dealing and confirmed that her husband faces multiple lawsuits. Awal, the bKash agent from the Dorga area, confirmed the incident, stating that he personally went on a motorcycle to collect the gold ornaments and provided BDT 50,000 against them, which remain mortgaged with him. A mobile transaction screenshot also verifies that BDT 50,000 was sent on 17/09/2026 at 3:06 PM. When asked about the allegations, ASI Md. Abdul Motaleb denied taking any money, saying, "Was the money sent to my number? I didn't take any money. Only one accused was caught according to the FIR; I did not detain three people." Meanwhile, when contacted, the individual associated with the receiving bKash number expressed frustration, stating, "You should speak with journalist Apu. You already know everything, how many times do I have to explain? I am just a bKash agent." Regarding the matter, police officer Abdur Rauf Talukder at the office of the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station stated that the OC is currently away on training. He added that if a written or formal complaint against ASI Motaleb is received, necessary legal action will be taken following an investigation.
