Notorious Female Human Trafficker Arrested in Jagannathpur, Shocking Information Emerges

Naeem Ahmed, Sylhet Correspondent: Police have arrested an alleged notorious female human trafficker, Shobi Begum (30), and her brother Shamsul (28), in Jagannathpur of Sunamganj for allegedly trafficking people by luring them with promises of well-paying jobs in Italy. Acting on a tip-off, Jagannathpur police conducted an operation in the Shahporan police station area of Sylhet and arrested the two. Police said at least four cases have been filed against them under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act. According to allegations, they collected crores of taka from local youths promising to send them to Italy, but instead sent them to Libya. There, an organized trafficking group allegedly held the victims captive and tortured them, sending videos of the abuse to their families to demand ransom. Several victims reportedly alleged that they were charged between Tk 2.5 million and Tk 4.6 million. More victims and their family members are reportedly coming forward in connection with the case. Police said they are questioning the arrested individuals to identify other members of the human trafficking network operating both in Bangladesh and abroad and bring them to justice.
